Welterweight Adrian Martin is confident there will be no ‘ring rust’ when he makes his delayed return to the ring this weekend.

The youngster has endured a tough 12 months overcoming a number of personal issues outside the ring which he has now overcome leading to his return to boxing full-time earlier this year.

And the Essex-based fighter, who is currently unbeaten as a pro, is confident that he there will be no signs in his performance of the time out.

“Training for this fight has been absolutely spot on,” said the former Essex University student.

“I have been asked a few times about the time I have taken out of the ring, but World Champions are inactive for longer periods so I very confident there will be no ring rust come fight night.

“Training camps are always hard, but I love it. It’s all part of the sport, without it I feel lost, it provides a balancing effect on my life.

“Overall it’s probably been one of the best I have had, I’ve got good rounds in with some very good fighters and even been on the road for sparring to get a different experience.

Martin also admits that he is now looking to push on in the sport after what he describes as his introduction to the paid ranks being over.

He continued: “I’m hoping the round the year off 10-0 and to have stepped into 8-10 round fights so that I’m in the mix for titles come 2019.

“Then me and my team can look at TV contracts, titles and everything else. But we all want that, I have faith in my ability and my team do too.”
