Amateur Star Sparring Ted Cheeseman Ahead of Pauly Upton Clash

Amateur star Joshua Adewale claims ‘the possibilities are endless’ after impressing in the ABAs and Haringey Box Cup.

The 22-year-old has been a regular in the Matchroom Gym, home to the likes of Conor Benn, for sparring in recent weeks.

The Slough-based prospect is certainly one to keep an eye on after being eliminated from the Elite ABAs in the quarter-final stage.

He has also been helping Ted Cheeseman prepare for his upcoming fight against Pauly Upton on the Okolie vs Watkins undercard, on a regular basis leading to Tony Sims’ admitting he has been impressed by the up-and-coming star.

“Sparring Ted Cheeseman is a great experience, he’s ranked 30 in the world and number 5 in the UK,” he said.

“I was asked to go down by Sab Leo from Hoddesdon, I had only fought in the ABAs less than 48 hours before but I couldn’t turn down the chance.

“I was stiff and certainly feeling it, but I knew I could impress. Even Tony Sims said he was surprised that I could do that many rounds after fighting so soon.

“I lost a tight decision in the ABA’s so it was good to get back in there and put it behind me.”

The welterweight is in no shortage of offers either from promoters wanting him to turn over, yet for a man so young he has a wise head on his shoulders.

“I’ve had a few conversation with promoters and there is a lot to think about, I know that its a big decision so I am not rushing it,” he explained.

“I want to get a great team around me and make sure the promoter can do everything I need them too.

“It’s nice to hear what people are saying but this isn’t a joke, I know what I need to do and the work that needs to be put in.”
