Frank Warren open to Billy Joe Saunders versus Chris Eubank Jr rematch

Billy Joe Saunders could face Chris Eubank Jr in a long-awaited rematch, according to promoter Frank Warren.

In 2014 Saunders claimed a split decision victory over Eubank Jr after banking many of the early rounds of the fight.

“I don’t think he fancies it,” Frank Warren said to The Boxing Podcast. “I think he knows Bill’s got his measure.

“You know, most fighters want to avenge a defeat. He doesn’t seem to want to be doing that, that’s my opinion.

“He may prove me wrong, I don’t think he will. He doesn’t want the fight, we’ve offered it on numerous occasions [in the past] and it’s just not happened.”

Last Saturday Eubank Jr claimed the biggest scalp of his career when he dropped and outpointed former IBF super middleweight champion James DeGale at the O2 Arena in London. The victory has stirred up talk of a Saunders rematch.

Warren said he was considering tabling an offer to test the waters.

“Yeah, we’re considering doing that, I’ve gotta speak to Bill and let’s see what we come up with,” Warren said.

“I would never hold my breath on anything to do with them, we’ve been down that road many, many times.”

Last week it was announced that Saunders would face Shefat Isufi for the vacant WBO super middleweight title but these plans were derailed when Gilberto Ramirez revealed he had not relinquished the title.
