WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder 40-0-1 (39) says he wants to face WBA, IBF and WBO champion Anthony Joshua 22-0 (21) in a four-belt unification match before his mooted rematch with Tyson Fury 27-0-1 (19).
Wilder and Fury battled to a thrilling 12-round split draw in Las Angeles in December that saw the ‘Gypsy King’ dropped twice late in the fight after dominating the early rounds.
The WBC ordered an immediate rematch however Fury signed a co-promotional deal with top Rank and ESPN that put the kybosh on that fight happening anytime soon.
In an interview with Blue Blood Sports TV the undefeated American opened up about his future plans.
“I want Joshua, of course I want to unify the belts,” Wilder said. “They know what we want, I don’t see why they keep coming with these offers and stuff like that.
“They know what we want, it’s easy, it’s easy to make that fight. They know what they want, but until they can swallow their pride like I did before, we’ve just gotta do what we gotta do.
“I did it, you didn’t wanna go through with it, but I did it. Now it’s time for you to swallow your f***ing pride and give the world one of the best heavyweight fights.
“I’mma knock his ass out that’s for sure. I promise you.”
Wilder saved some venom for Fury and his decision to walk away from negotiations for the rematch.
“He had an opportunity to sign, we could’ve had this fight going with a 50/50 split and run it back, but somebody got scared,” Wilder continued.
“He’s supposed to be a ‘Gypsy King’? Nah, you ain’t no ‘Gypsy King’, he gotta change his name.”
Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn laid out his plan last week for Wilder to land a fight with Joshua. Hearn’s offer included $15 million to face Dominic Breazeale on DAZN with a guarantee to fight Joshua immediately after that.
But Wilder was having none of it after the very protracted and very public negotiations for a Joshua-Wilder fight fell through last year.
“Man we can’t trust s*** Eddie says. Eddie lost all my trust man,” said Wilder, who had previously called for a 50/50 revenue split to face Joshua.
“Four months of negotiations man, you playing around with me? You playing around with my team? We’re grown men, we don’t have time to be playing these games.”
