It feels weird to say that Danny Garcia is “back”, because the reality is that the Philadelphia fighter never really left. Despite losing two of his last three fights heading into Saturday, Garcia was only a round or two away from wining either of those matches (to Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter).
Over the weekend, Garcia dominated a brave but limited foe in Adrian Granados, scoring three knockdowns and showing off his power in a 7th round TKO victory. Garcia (35-2, 21 KO) had too much all-around game for Granados (20-7-2, 14 KO) and will see his career moved forward.
Speaking to the assembled press after the match, Garcia admitted he was at his best during recent contests.
“I felt good,” said Garcia. “I felt like in the past, my last couple fights, I wasn’t at my best. In the [Brandon] Rios, the Porter fight, I felt like I got too comfortable in my career. I didn’t give the extra push, and I did it for this camp. That’s the Danny Garcia you’re gonna see for the rest of my career.”
Garcia mentioned several top names afterwards, including former foes Thurman and Porter, as well as IBF champion Errol Spence Jr. and WBA champion Manny Pacquiao.
“I want any of them,” said Garcia.
Granados is as tough as nails, as gave spirited efforts as he took Porter and Adrien Broner the distance in decision losses. Garcia knew he needed to set himself apart.
“In order for me to make a statement tonight, I had to stop him,” said Garcia. “That was the game plan, to break him down. I’ve got too many tools, I’m a talented fighter. I can’t let a fighter like that hang with me for so many rounds. I’m just a different type of fighter. I told him that he never fought a fighter like me, and I showed that tonight.”
One of Garcia’s signature punches has been his devastating left hook and it was back in effect last night.
“I haven’t landed that in a minute,” said Garcia. “It felt good landing that big left hook. I felt like I did good. I did great, man. A+. I’m proud. I did great.”
Garcia again addressed his immediate future, signaling out the big names.
“Manny Pacquiao said he wants to fight me, I’m hoping to fight him,” he stated. “Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter, or Errol Spence. Any of the top names. I definitely want to avenge my losses to Porter and Thurman.”
Garcia’s fights with Thurman and Porter were razor close and he sees no reason they can’t do it again.
“I gave them the opportunity, they gotta give me the opportunity,” Garcia said.
Stay tuned, the DSG show is back and his next fight could be a big one.
