May in the US is being planned for Taylor v Ramirez

The highly anticipated undisputed super-lightweight title showdown between Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez has been pencilled in for early May in the US.

Josh Taylor is promoted by Bob Arum who also represents Ramirez and Bob Arum told Fight Night talkSPORT ““I advised Josh that the fight with Ramirez would be in the United States and would take place in early May.

“I had to get him busy getting his visa and all that sort of stuff because they told me Josh wants to arrive in the United States at least a month before that fight.

“He wants to train in our gym – the same gym Tyson Fury trained in.”

The early May date suggests that the fight could take place on Saturday 1st May and it’s thought that the following Saturday which is 8th May is known to be targeted for the Canelo-Alveraz fight and Bob doesn’t want the events to clash.

Josh Taylor also joined the Fight Night show and said “I do 100 per cent believe I’m gonna win this fight.

“I’ve watched Ramirez a hell of a lot and I just don’t see he does anything better than me at all.

“I’m better than him in every department.

“Boxing IQ, boxing on the back foot, boxing on the front foot, I don’t believe his fighting inside game is that good either.

“I just think I’ve got the beating over him in every department.

“It’s down to me and the way I take this fight on, the way I decide to fight. I think it’s my fight to lose.

“I’m not gonna disrespect him, he is a very good fighter. You don’t become unified world champion for no reason. I’m not gonna slag him off because I do respect him.

“But I just believe I win that fight hands down.”

Bob also mentioned to Talk Sport that Taylor will come over early to the US to train for the fight with Ramirez. All four titles IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO will be on the line.
