Tommy Fury, 6-0 (4 KO’s), said he cannot wait until he gets his hands on Jake Paul. Fury makes his American debut on August 29th against Anthony Taylor, an MMA fighter. Daniel Dubois will also be making an appearance on the same show.
It seems that a showdown between Fury and Youtube star Paul could come to fruition in the not too distant future.
Fury said:
“It is a big show, and I am very happy to be on it. Now it is about making my own way in front of a new audience that is not the one we normally get. I am over there to do one job and one job only, and that is to win and look good doing it.
“I want to impress in America and get my name out there even more. I just see excitement around this fight, and I can’t wait to get over there and take everything in. From being a small boy, I used to see Tyson in his fight weeks and saw everything. Now it is my turn, and I’ll be over there in the limelight and it will be my fight week.
“I am there to steal the show, get this idiot out of the way. Then we can move on to the other fella (Jake Paul) and knock him spark out. If I get the opportunity to knock this fella out in 10 seconds, I will take it with both hands, because it is the fight game, and I am not here to mess about. If Jake Paul then goes running, he goes running, but I am there to do a job and if he wants the fight, he can have the fight.
“I am going to get through this man. I am going to make an example of him because I wouldn’t even use him as a sparring partner. I am a big light heavyweight, and he is going to know what it feels like on the night.
“I think me just walking to the ring outperforms Jake Paul. The man is not a fighter. He is a YouTuber and I’m going to show the difference in levels between MMA fighters and professional boxers.”
It is a little unfortunate that it comes across to me that Tommy is primarily concerning himself with the likes of Jake Paul. The Youtube star makes a lot of money off the back of his fame on the well known video site and so it seems that it is the likely reason why Fury wants to fight him, above all else.
Do not get me wrong, money should be an important factor. But not so much that it becomes your sole reason to fight. The public are smart enough to cotton on and figure out the motives of combatants who do such a thing.
The light-heavyweight division has always struggled for attention. So, I can understand why any boxer, who competes in that division like Tommy does, would seek a novel idea to seek recognition. I am sure that means a lot to him, too, if his stint on the reality tv show “Love Island” is anything to go by.
Fury is going to do what he wants to do, regardless. He already has a huge traveller following. But if he wants to command respect from the rest of us then it would be good if he aimed his sights on genuine world title glory.
