It appears George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos 19-0 (10) has really gotten under the skin of Teofimo ‘The Takeover’ Lopez 16-0 (12).
The pair as scheduled to fight in October although the official date is still up in the are after promoter Triller attempted to move the fight from October 4 to October 16.
Lopez has agreed to the new date while Kambosos is reportedly holding out for more money.
Australian Kambosos, 28, has repeatedly taunted Lopez in the lead up to the oft-postponed bout, but in person and in interviews.
And if the plan was to get the undisputed lightweight champion angry, it’s working.
“I get it he can use the Spartan shit all he wants,” Lopez said in an interview with iFL TV. “I’m not going to disrespect the Spartans, but my guy ain’t a Spartan.
“I’ve got a video of him getting knocked out in the amateurs that I can post right now. He got knocked out with a mean-ass uppercut, with 10-ounce gloves. Amateur 10-ounce gloves and headgear and never got back up.
“You’re not a Spartan. You’re just a fraud. A Spartan don’t stay down. A Spartan gets back up. You wanna say ‘300’ [the 2007 film based on the Battle of Thermopylae] and all that. Don’t disrespect the gods, bro.”
Lopez will be having his first fight since dethroning top pound-for-pound boxer Vasiliy Lomachenko 15-2 (11) one year ago.
Kambosos has had a year on the sidelines too. He has not fought since his split decision victory over former IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby in London last October.
Lopez is promising maximum carnage and even predicted the 12-round fight would not last three minutes.
“I call it in the first round, man,” Lopez said. “Call it the first round. That guy is there for me. If he tries to box, he can’t box me. Loma tried it. Can’t box me.
“You try to come at me? [Richard] Commey tried it. You gonna get dropped. You know what I mean? What way you want to get out? How you want this? The whole thing is, like, there’s no way out, my guy. There’s no way out.
“Your going to collect what you’re going to collect, but I’m going to make sure you get a beating out of this, for sure, because you took it to a whole different personal level. Like, [Diego] Magdaleno learned this lesson. Just a little bit.
“But this guy, it’s going to be twice as bad. I feel like if I break his fucking eyesocket, I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry. I feel like if I snap his vertebrae, I’m not sorry.
“I really want to show everybody what my power is capable of and what my mind is capable of. If I really want to hurt someone to that extreme, I will. That’s really what it comes down to.”
