Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury will be linked together in history forever.
This past Saturday night in Las Vegas, Wilder attempted to win back his WBC heavyweight crown against Fury, as the two men fought inside of the T-Mobile Arena.
In a shocking and courageous battle, Fury was dropped twice, with Wilder being dropped three times as well. Ultimately Fury came away with a 11th round TKO victory after bludgeoning Wilder with a viscous right hand that sent him to the matt for the third time.
Wilder is now 0-2-1 against Fury. The two men fought to a draw in December of 2018, and Fury dominated their rematch, scoring a 7th round TKO victory. Wilder appeared to have a new focus with trainer Malik Scott now a part of his team, and he was able to come out of the gates strong against his British rival.
In the post-fight interview, Fury claimed that Wilder refused to shake his hand, and that he was going to “pray” for him. Sure enough, Wilder left the ring this past weekend, immediately after his loss to Fury.
And while there appeared to be bad blood on Wilder’s side, he is now changing his stance towards Fury. Wilder recently went to social media to address the third fight with Fury, as well as his heroic effort.
“Wow, what a hell of a night! I would like to first and foremost thank God for allowing me to give the world another part of me that’s driven with passion and determination. I would like to thank my team and my fans for sticking by my side through this long process,” said Wilder.
“I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t disappointed in the outcome but after reflecting on my journey, I now see that what God wanted me to experience is far greater than what I expected to happen. We didn’t get the win but a wise man once said the victories are within the lessons. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to lose to win. Although, I wanted the win I enjoyed seeing the fans win even more,” Wilder added.
And finally, Wilder made sure to give Fury his deserved credit.
“Hopefully, I proved that I am a true warrior and a true king in this sport. Hopefully, we proved that no matter how hard you get hit with trials and tribulations you can always pick yourself up to live and fight again for what you believe in. Last but not least I would like to congratulate (Tyson Fury) for his victory and thank you for the great historical memories that will last forever.”
In the years moving forward, it would be amazing to see these two men, who shared such a memorable battle in the ring, get along with one another.
