Floyd Masson held the Australasian title and Mark Flanagan held the Australia national title, the two fought against each other to unify the titles. Floyd came into the fight as the underdog, going up against a very experienced Mark Flanagan who has fought more than five New Zealanders in the past.
The fight I have to say is one of the best fights that has come out of 2021 and could be a contender for the fight of the year award. The fight was close throughout the evening and show some very entertaining rounds. The first round didn’t start off very well with Floyd getting knockdown. However, it didn’t bother Floyd that much as he got up as nothing happened. Floyd got his payback when he knocked down Mark with a body punch later in the fight.
There were moments in the fight where Mark was taunting Floyd to punch him, possibly to lead him into a trap. Floyd however was very smart and would only get in when he could avoid what Mark would throw.
At the end of 10 rounds, the judges score a Majority decision win to Floyd Masson. When the announcer announced the results, Mark dropped to his knee and broke down. Floyd showed great sportsmanship and also drop to his knee to comfort Mark and hugged him.
Now that Floyd had won against Mark, he is now ready to take on more international opponents. He is now ranked just as high as David Light and Jai Opetaia on Boxrec.
Another New Zealand born boxer that was on the card was Ricky E Silva winning his fight by TKO over Victor Oganov.

Another event that happened on the same night saw debut New Zealand born boxer Gerico Cecil losing against Tevita Pangai Jr. Miles Zalewski who is also New Zealand born lost his fight against Dana Coolwell.
One thing to note from that event was Lucas Browne winning the WBA Oceania title against Faiga Opelu.
This is an amazing win for Lucas as throughout the fight he was losing. The way that Lucas was fighting in the first two rounds should not have led him to win.
In the first two rounds, Lucas was just calculating and not able to land any shots. Both boxers were playing around a bit as well in the first few rounds. By the fourth round, things got a bit more serious where both boxers stopped smiling and started landing with intent. Both boxers were fighting quite dirty however it was Faiga that was backslapping and aiming low.
By the 6th round, Faiga started tiring out and stopped moving around which led to a massive Uppercut in the 7th with Lucas winning by KO.
Personally, I am glad that Lucas won, but at the begging of that fight he should not have won the fight how he was boxing. If he was fighting Hemi Ahio, Kiki Toa Leutele or Junior Fa, the fight would have ended in the first round.
