Will Tyson Fury Find The Motivation To Defend Against Dillian Whyte? Here Is Why He Should…

Tyson Fury has reiterated that he only has the desire to fight Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua as he continues to state that he is not interested in fighting Dillian Whyte despite the number one WBC contender has now officially been given the go ahead to face Fury next year for that portion of the championship.

Speaking to IFilm London, Fury said: “I always said I’m only interested in two fights, Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk. Apart from that, I’m not interested. If I don’t get them fights, not interested.”

Fury is still uncertain that a defence against Whyte will actually go ahead due to Whyte’s lawsuit against the WBC for not being given an opportunity to fight for the WBC belt sooner.
Fury commented:

“We’ll find out February, but today’s only November, so a lot can happen in a few months.”

It is commendable that Fury has the desire to want to fight the best that the division has to offer and unify the titles. But for me, a legitimate champion also fights their mandatories. And Dillian Whyte has been waiting long enough for his opportunity. Surely that is something that is hard to dispute.

It comes across that Fury just wants to make the point that he can just come in to boxing and take down any of the current champions of a particular time. And I am not doubting his ability to do so, if we take into account how poor the heavyweight class is right now. But it is getting a bit irritating to hear him complain that he doesn’t want to make the necessary defences that he has to make. That has always been part of the deal if you want to keep hold of the belts.

Tyson Fury is no exception.
