VSP Promotions announced that they will be staging monthly professional bouts in Vietnam from February 2022.
The company plans to hold shows in HCMC at the famous landmark VSP Gym, and later, at other iconic locations, as international travel and crowds are welcomed back to the country.
Vietnam Sports Platform (VSP) Boxing are large stakeholders in the Vietnam sports and entertainment landscape. The group were recently awarded the rights to develop a $300 million sports amenity in HCMC, which will prove to be the Mecca for boxing, cycling, and other sports. They own the world class VSP Boxing Gym in HCMC, and have also conducted the largest and most iconic boxing events ever seen in the country. Their international brand “Victory8”, an exhibition style format over 4 rounds in which Vietnam compete against fighters from around the world, has attracted local crowds in excess of 20,000, and generated more than 30 million views online. The success of these festive events really underscores the fascination that Vietnamese have with fight sports.
VSP sees the monthly events as the ideal opportunity to get scores of talented amateur pro fighters into the pro ranks. Vietnam enjoyed a record medal tally at the 2020 SEA Games, and more recently, sent two representatives at the Tokyo Olympics. The Victory8 format has already proved that Vietnam can compete with top boxers from around the world, and VSP plan on bringing in foreign athletes as soon as travel restrictions fade. VSP Promotions sponsored five events in the Philippines this year, and have already earmarked some exciting pinoy stars to bring into Vietnam.
VSP Boxing were quick to sign the Philippines’ best boxer Charly Suarez, and this former esteemed amateur is now 9 and 0 into a pro career. His upcoming foray will be a WBA regional title. Young Mindanao prospect Lorenz Ladrada was also secured, and the former ALA youngster wasted no time putting together 4 wins this year in exciting fashion.
It is expected that the initial promotions will showcase many of the nation’s best known fighters, but VSP are encouraging all boxers that wish to fight as a professional to register.
