Recently, it has been revealed that Amir Khan has admitted that his fight with Kell Brook will be his last ever as a professional boxer.
Speaking on Instagram, the Bolton man said: “I leave it to God to decide which round I knock Kell Brook out. I am going to win the fight 100 per cent. People ask me what I’m doing after this fight. I’m done, man.”
So, that makes it pretty clear as to what Khan’s plans are. But Brook, on the other hand, has claimed that he feels “revitalised” and will look to continue his boxing career should he beat his British rival.
But where could he go?
None of the major boxing organisations list him in their top ten at this present time. And that is unlikely to change with a win over Khan, who is heavily considered to be finished by many fight fans. Ultimately, it would be a very long way back for Brook who would have to seriously knuckle down and do some hard work in order to continue to get huge pay days and more world titles.
With Kell blatantly having trouble effectively campaigning in the welterweight class, perhaps Brook may want to move to and stick with boxing at 154lb. But there are some good quality champions and contenders there that I struggle to see him overcome.
Terence Crawford seemingly ended any hopes of capturing a world title ever again. But this is boxing and unexpected deals can be made, especially if you have the right promoter by your side.
If we are looking at things realistically, though, the fight with Khan should be the last for both boxers. I know that is hard to see when you are actually in the shoes of one of these men. Quitting something you had been doing for most of your life is a difficult thing to achieve. Even they, themselves, would likely be honest and tell you the same.
The good days when Brook and Khan were at their best are now long gone and it is time to make way for new blood.
Eventually Kell Brook will get that message. One way or another.
