A couple of days ago it was reported that a potential fight between WBA regular champion, Daniel Dubois and former number 1 WBC contender Dillian Whyte is being worked on. Whyte has not fought since losing to Tyson Fury in April earlier this year while Dubois is coming off an impressive knockout world title win over Trevor Bryan in Miami.
Dubois said to The Unibet Lowdown: “These guys saying I am a quitter. I want to get in the ring and show them how much of a quitter I am.
“I want to make them quit. If they can make the fight happen, then make the fight happen.
“It’s what I want now just to shut them all up and all the guys that have something to say I’ll deal with them.”
The accusations of Dubois being a “quitter” have not ceased since he refused to continue against Joe Joyce in their big British showdown in 2020. It was revealed shortly after that the fighter, now 18-1 with 17 KO’s, suffered nerve damage around his left eye as well as a fractured orbital bone. Those two things are always career threatening. But it appears that Daniel has rejuvenated himself since then with a three knockout victory streak.
For Whyte, a win over Dubois would surely put him right back into the mix again for all of the other heavyweight belts and an opportunity to finally grasp a world title. If Dubois wins then that could lead him to an eventual path to fight one of the elites of the division including Oleksandr Usyk or Tyson Fury. Those two are right now in discussions to face off against one another.
For me, I see a Dubois vs Whyte contest as a pretty exciting one. Both can bang, although I would put money on it that Dubois is likely the heavier hitter of the two. As Joyce proved, the Greenwich born boxer can be outboxed although he had to take some mean looking punches to the chin to get the job done. Whyte might try and do the same. But he is very easy to hit and he has evidently shown that he runs out of steam often before the halfway mark in a fight.
And that is why I would pick Dubois to get a spectacular knockout somewhere around the 5th.
