Undisputed super middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez 57-2-2 (39) is confident he can stop Gennadiy Golovkin 42-1-1 (37) in their trilogy bout at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 17.

In an interview with FightHype, Alvarez was asked how his rated his chances of stopping the 40-year-old Kazakh with body shots.

“It’s one of my best punches, to the body, right?” the 32-year-old Alvarez said. “I’m gonna work whatever, head, body, but my goal is to end this fight before the 12th round. So, whatever I need I’m gonna do it in the ring.”

Alvarez and Golovkin fought to a split draw in September 2017 before Alvarez edged a majority decision in their rematch one year later.

“This kind of fight, our styles make this fight perfect,” Alvarez said. “That’s why it’s a trilogy. We had two great fights because our styles make the fight perfect. And I think this fight is gonna be a good fight too. But I think I’m more mature, I’m in my prime, I feel confident. I think that’s gonna be the difference.”

Alvarez isn’t the only one who thinks he can win by knockout. Former world champions Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley and Amir Khan are all tipping the Mexican superstar to finish off the fight within the distance.

“It’s motivating for Canelo to have lost to [WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry] Bivol, because another defeat for a fighter like him would not be good,” Marquez told Marca.

“In the second fight with Golovkin he showed that he can beat him in the center of the ring, in the second fight he deciphered his style and he’s going to beat him. By speed, counter punches and combinations, so he’s not going to withstand the onslaught [coming from Canelo]. Canelo is going to win by knockout.”

Bradley’s assessment was direct and to the point.

“Canelo is gonna beat the brakes off GGG. Canelo coming hungry bro,” he said. “He working his tail off, he can’t afford another loss. Two back-to-back losses? His stock will definitely plummet.

“I think he will be tough if he gets past the first four rounds. He gotta get past those first four rounds. Canelo is going to come out I believe hot, fast, and he’s gonna pour those combinations on him. I think he’s gonna break his ass down to the body. I’m saying Canelo stoppage late, or a straight up beatdown for 12 rounds.”

Khan added his two cents on Instagram.

“I see Canelo stopping Triple G,” he said. “Look, a lot of people are going to have things to say about this, ‘Ah, Amir doesn’t know shit about boxing.’ But you know what the thing is, I really think that. It’s my opinion. Everybody has their own opinion.

“So it’s a third fight, you got to remember that Canelo is at the peak of his career. You get me? He’s old, he’s strong, he’s settled now. His weight is amazing. He holds the weight well. Power, speed. I think in that fight I could see Canelo [stopping Golovkin]. No disrespect to Triple G — what a beast he is — but you’ve got to remember he’s getting older and he’s been in the game for a long time. He was in the same Olympics as me in ’04… I just feel like Canelo is the fresher guy that hasn’t been in that many wars.”
