Shakur ‘Fearless’ Stevenson 18-0 (9) has lost his two world titles on the scales ahead of his bout against Robson ‘Nino’ Conceicao 17-1 (8) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Friday night.

Stevenson weighed in at 131.6 pounds and opted not to use the two hour window allotted to lose the excess weight. Conceicao scaled 129.6 pounds.

As a result, the WBC and WBO super featherweight titles have been declared vacant. Only Conceicao can claim the belts if he is victorious.

Southpaw Stevenson, 25, was unapologetic about failing to make weight.

“I gave it my all,” Stevenson said on social media. “I’ve been professional my whole career and made weight, but my body just can’t make 130 anymore. My health has to come first. I’m moving up to 135 in my next fight… it’s showtime. I’m locked in regardless. See y’all soon.”

Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Conceicao, 33, has only ever lost to two-weight world champion Oscar Valdez on points in a competitive fight in September last year.

At the final pre-fight press conference on Wednesday – prior to the weigh-in debacle – Conceicao made it clear he was coming to win.

“I’m very motivated,” Conceicao said. “I’ve trained all my life for this moment. The world was able to see that I was better than Oscar Valdez. I should have won. So, he’s not really defending two titles because one should have been mine. I’m a champion without a crown, and I’m ready for Friday night… there will only be one champ and that champ is me.”

Stevenson believes he is a class above Conceicao.

“He’s a good fighter,” Stevenson admitted. “But I think he lost against Valdez. If you left it in the judges’ hands, then you lost. I fought Valdez and I beat the shit out of him.

“I don’t have any excuses. He’s talking about having COVID or something before his last fight. All I hear are excuses. I’m ready to fight. Tell him to not have any excuses on Friday night. I’m ready to beat him up… I never leave it in the hands of the judges. I go in there and take everything that I want.”
