Frank Warren says Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois are ready for world title shots

Joe Joyce and Daniel Dubois

Promoter Frank Warren wants to put one of his heavyweight talents in against former unified champion Anthony Joshua 24-3 (22).

Queensberry Promotions boss Warren promotes WBO number one contender Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce 15-0 (14) and WBA ‘regular’ titleholder Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois 18-1 (17).

Joshua lost his WBA, WBO and IBF belts to Oleksandr Usyk 20-0 (13) by unanimous decision in September last year. He failed to regain his titles in his rematch in August.

The only loss on Dubois’ ledger came against Joyce when he was stopped in the 10t h round in a fight he was leading on two of the judges’ scorecards after suffering a fractured left eye socket.

Usyk is expected to face WBC champion Tyson Fury 31-0-1 (23) in a unification bout in the new year if the 34-year-old Brit defeats gatekeeper Derek Chisora 33-12 (23) in their trilogy bout on December 3.

Warren sees both Joyce and Dubois as viable options for Ukrainian southpaw Usyk if the Fury bout doesn’t take place.

“Now I’m going to be able to start throwing Daniel Dubois at him and Joe,” Frank Warren said to Sky Sports.

“If he don’t fight one of them I think they’ll find it hard to sell anything and he can’t say, ‘Why should I do that?’. I’ll tell you why, he’ll become a mandatory.”

But if the Usyk-Fury unification does take place, Warren is willing to pursue a bout with Joshua for either of the heavyweights he represents.

“He’s liable to get knocked over by anybody,” Warren said of Joshua. “I’d put any of my guys in with him. Any of them. Joe Joyce would knock him out and Dubois would do the same.

“We’ve worked very hard over the last few years on this heavyweight scene and we’ve guided our guys in different organisations and we’ve boxed it off a bit so I’m pleased.

“Joe done extremely well [against Joseph Parker], got great reviews back from America because his fight done big numbers over there. It was a good fight to watch. He’s set himself up. Him and Tyson [Fury] will be a huge fight, [Deontay] Wilder will be a huge fight, AJ.

“He’ll be out in February. He’s in a real good spot.”
