‘The Animal’ Vaughn Alexander is returning to his hometown of Saint Louis, Missouri, on the 29th of July. The hugely experienced Alexander will take on Brooklyn’s Courtney Pennington. The fight is promoted by DBA Cameron Promotions and takes place at The Ambassador Club.
Vaughn Alexander (17-7-1, 10 KOs) has competed as high as Super Middleweight, in recent fights, but is looking to get back down and campaign at Middleweight. The St. Louis boxer last saw action, back in December, when taking highly rated Frenchman Christian Mbilli the full 10-rounds. The fight took place in Nantes, France and the decision went the way of the home fighter.
In Vaughn’s previous two fights, he stopped Argentinean Sergio Samuel Castellano, in one round, and outpointed World-ranked Luis Arias, over ten rounds. All the more impressive, as Arias had just defeated former World champion Jarrett Hurd.
Vaughn turned professional in 2004 but took a ten-year break. When he returned in 2016, he went on a seven-fight winning streak. Alexander has mixed with very good opposition and has not always had the rub of the green, having taken current WBO middleweight champion Zhanibek Alimkhanuly, Anthony Sims Jr and Bektemir Melikuziev the distance. He, also, holds impressive wins over Elvin Ayala and Devaun Lee. ‘The Animal’ has taken the undefeated records of Filip Stankovic and Money Powell IV.
New Yorker Courtney Pennington (16-6-3, 7 KOs), is the away fighter but has proven he can win on the road and will be looking to have his hand raised. Courtney turned professional in 2012 and won his first seven contests. He holds credible wins over Boyd Melson, Khiary Gray and former World title challenger Delvin Rodriguez. He has tasted defeat but to quality opposition like Patrick Day, Charles Conwell, and James Metcalf. Though, last year he beat the very capable Greg Vendetti.
Both men fight out of the orthodox stance, are tough and have good power. It is a fight that will see the victor push up the rankings.
The full undercard will feature several local talents in competitive bouts. ‘Fight Night in The Lou’ tickets can be purchased, from Tuesday, at The Ambassador
