Deontay Wilder refuses to budge on purse split for Andy Ruiz Jr fight

The war of words between former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder 43-2-1 (41) and former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr 35-2 (22) continues.

The WBC has ordered their top two contenders to fight in a final eliminator with the winning becoming the mandatory challenger to their champion Tyson Fury 33-0-1 (24).

Team Ruiz have rejected an offer from the Wilder camp that would see the 33-year-old Mexican-American receiving around 30% of the purse. They want a 50-50 split.

American Wilder, 37, is also in negotiations to face former two-time WBA, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua 25-3 (22) in Saudi Arabia in December but has said he would like to squeeze in a fight before that.

Wilder says 30% is all that Ruiz is worth.

“We don’t have to go back and forth with all this talking. I know what the deal is and the real is, and you know what the deal and the real is as well,” Wilder said.

“The only people mad is you, is you guys. I didn’t call you, ya’ll called us. I didn’t harass you, you guys harassed us about fighting. We wasn’t in no desperate need of fighting, you guys were in a desperate need of fighting, or you wouldn’t have never called our phone in the first place.

“You called my [trainer] Malik [Scott], desperately trying to get a fight on. [You] got in touch with me, saw me at the fights, desperately tried to fight me. I said ‘hey, cool, let’s make it happen, we’ll get back with you.’ We got back with you guys, with my team, with your team – and now it’s time to put it all together.

“Who acting scared? It ain’t me, because what ya’ll talk about is unreasonable, let’s face it. So, when you serious, holla at me. Until then, do what you do. You got a lot of weight to lose. You can talk that talk, but only a few walk that walk. So, if you want to see what a knockout feel like, to get your brain splattered, holla at me. I ain’t far.”

In the second clip, Ruiz said: “What you mean I’m scared? I ain’t scared of nobody. The only person I’m scared of is the man up above.

“You want to talk about money, you want to talk about respect, you want to talk about how you’re going to blow my brains out, bro you’re going to have diarhea before you step into that ring.

“I’m trying to humble your ass down, man.

“Just be fair bro, just be reasonable. Tell Al Haymon to cut the cheque and let’s show everybody what we’re about.

“I’m here to win, baby. It’s not about the money, I’m here to win. To become champion again.”
