Frustration fills the Deontay Wilder camp as Anthony Joshua talks are put on ice

Deontay Wilder’s coach says he is still in the dark about the status of the proposed bout against Anthony Joshua that is slated to take place in Saudi Arabia in January.

The funding for the fight was to come from Skill Challenge Entertainment but with internal changes underway within the Saudi outfit negotiations have ground to a halt.

Former WBC heavyweight champion Wilder 43-2-1 (42) is one of the biggest punchers in boxing. Joshua 26-3 (23) is a former two-time unified heavyweight champion who can whack in his own right.

Both boxers have been stopped before. American Wilder, 37, has been knocked out twice by reigning WBC champion Tyson Fury 33-0-1 (24) twice. England’s Joshua, 33, was halted by Andy Ruiz Jr.

It is the type of matchup the fans clamour for, but as of right now, it looks close to being a non-starter.

Wilder’s trainer Malik Scott says his boxer has been working away in the gym while things shake out.

“I just know that Deontay was training yesterday and the day before that he was training. I don’t know what they’re talking about but we’ll see,” Scott said to ES News.

“It’s a real frustrating situation, really it is, because as for as everybody, Deontay is the one as far as activity is the one who misses out. There were a lot of promises and seems like those promises are being broken a little bit, but we’ll see.”

Wilder has not boxed since blasting out Robert Helenius in the opening round almost a year ago. Joshua has boxed twice this year, a decision win over Jermain Franklin and a seventh-round knockout of Helenius.

“I’ve had a lot of people run throughout my career cause of the power I possess,” Wilder said to Frenzee Broadcasting.

“People put things out there to make it out like they not running or not scared. But in reality, they scared. I got a lot of guys right now, we could have made great money but they dodged it. They don’t know I know.

“Deep down in they heart, they know who it is. But it’s all good though because at this moment in time nobody is safe.

“I think I’ve got three more years left but I’m gunna bless the world my last three years with some of the best fights they ever seen, the people they want. As long as they don’t run. We got them.”
