Zhilei Zhang looking to repeat the treatment when he rematches Joe Joyce on Saturday

Heavyweight contender Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang 25-1-1 (20) says boxing Joe ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce 15-1 (14) is a pleasurably experience as the once-beaten Brit is there to be hit.

Chinese southpaw Zhang, 40, scored a sixth-round knockout of the 37-year-old Joyce in April. Joyce suffered damage to his right eye, forcing the referee to stop following an inspection by ringside doctor.

“It’s quite enjoyable to be in the ring with him,” Zhang told Standard Sport. “He’s not moving his head, he’s not changing his position and angles. That makes my job easier.

“He is definitely heavy-handed, but not as heavy as I would have imagined.”

The duo will meet in a rematch at Wembley Arena in London, England on Saturday night. Joyce struggled with Zhang’s size and southpaw stance in the first bout and Zhang doesn’t expect anything different in the rematch.

“I was a little surprised when I first heard about the rematch,” Zhang said. “It’s in the contract, I knew he would activate it one way or another. But I didn’t expect it to be so fast.

“I would have expected him to fight one or two interim bouts in between, get used to a style and then take the rematch.

“It’s not rocket science that you can’t change to a different style in a few months. That’s why the second fight will end even quicker.

“I don’t do anything other than eat, sleep and train. At this age, I still feel I can compete for the heavyweight title. I am 100% confident that I will beat all these guys.”

In an interview with Frank Warren’s YouTube channel, Zhang said he would target Joyce’s right eye to see if it had healed properly.

“I think from the opening bell, Joe was having problems trying to figure out what the fight was going to be looking like,” Zhang said. “So he activated the rematch and definitely analysed the fight.

“I’m going to aim for his eye. I know where his weakness is at. Of course, everybody saw the eye swelling up. I’m aiming for the eye, no question.”

Zhang entered the first bout on the back of a loss after dropping a razor-thin unanimous decision to IBF number one contender Filip ‘El Aminal’ Hrgovic 16-0 (13) in August last year.

In that bout in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Zhang landed the heavier shots but was denied the victory by the judges who awarded the bout to 31-year-old Croatian Hrgovic by scores of 115-112, 114-113 and 115-112.

Joyce came into the Zhang fight on the back of four quality wins that saw many fans and pundits tipping him to be a future heavyweight champion. He handed Daniel Dubois 19-2 (18) his first loss and turned back the challenges of fringe contender Carlo Takam 40-7 (28) and Christian Hammer 27-10 (17) as well as defeating former WBO champion Joseph Parker 32-3 (22). All four wins came by knockout.
