Exclusive interview with Scott Harrison as he prepares for his return to boxing

Ringnews24.com: Do you feel let down by the Scottish Sheriff Court after they announced you would be extradited to Spain to serve a four-year prison sentence for assault charges dating from May 2007?

There are a lot of ins and outs of the case. I can’t talk too much about the actual case because I have still to go up in front of the High Court – whenever it may be – come my appeal. There are a lot of points of law that the Sheriff should have… the case should have been thrown out. For some reason he never gave an explanation why, so I will be appearing at the High Court this year.

Floyd “Money” Mayweather emerged as the victor over Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, under the bright lights of the MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The fight was tense and a boxing match with few fireworks. It was an intriguing match-up of styles between the two best fighters of a generation.

OK, Manny vs Floyd, Vegas, MGM Floyd, May 2nd, Cinco de Mayo weekend @ MGM Floyd…most $$$$$ evah…all time great legacies on the line…blah, blah blah and such, the endless steaming, streaming consciousnesses of “boxing experts” blushing forth orgasmic prematurity. We get it. We the poor, the huddled, the bedeviled, the unwashed rubes are supposed to be impressed.

Gutsy Andy Lee earns Draw against Peter Quillin

The magnificent Barclays Center, Brooklyn, New York, USA, played host to the intriguing clash between WBO middleweight champion “Irish” Andy Lee and former, undefeated holder Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin. There was controversy at the weigh-in, as Quillin failed to make the weight and subsequently, Lee’s WBO belt wasn’t on the line.

The fight was aired as part of Premier Boxing Champions on NBC, and the bout while not fast paced, certainly contained drama. A lack of action, for periods, was countered by the intense nature of the affair.

Can Bernard Hopkins defy Father Time again?

Following the thrills and spills of 2013, which boxing sage Al Bernstein described as the best year in the sport for 25 years, 2014 has been nothing but a damp squib.  It has been a year characterised by in-fighting behind the scenes involving the major players in the sport, i.e., Oscar De La Hoya, Al Haymon, Richard Schaefer and the two big cable networks, HBO and Showtime.  For people who follow the sport closely, all that is fascinating, but what we really want to see is action and big fights inside the ring.

At last this Saturday we have what is almost certainly the biggest and most intriguing fight of 2014, as WBO light-heavyweight champion and the number one in the division, Sergey Kovalev, takes on the challenge of Bernard Hopkins who, at nearly 50 years of age, is the crotchety old fogey of the sport.  Hopkins holds both the WBA and IBF belts and all three trinkets will be on the line on Saturday night.  The fight takes place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City and is to be televised live on HBO in the U.S. and BoxNation in the U.K.  The only fight this year which comes even close to rivalling this one as far as impact and importance goes, was the rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley in April.

Hopkins vs Kovalev – The Writers’ Predictions

Corey Gabriel Quincy
Bernard Hopkins is an all-time great; it would be ignorant to say that he will go down without a fight. With that said, I don’t know if he can handle the heavy-handed Kovalev’s onslaught for 12 rounds. I actually feel Hopkins’ craftiness could help him survive the distance, but he’s going to take some damage early on; too much to mount a comeback. He’s not going to get walked on, though – Hopkins will put on a good fight in probably inevitable defeat. Kovalev late TKO or points.
