Joshua sends power threat to Heavyweight rivals

Anthony Joshua MBE claimed his first professional title on Saturday night with a brutal second round KO of Denis Bakhtov – and chillingly warned his Heavyweight rivals: ‘My power is only going to grow.’

The Olympic gold medal hero blasted Bakhtov out of the equation in just five ruthless minutes in east London, back in the venue of his debut last October.

Joshua signalled his intent in the opening round, staggering the Russian with a fierce right counter that led to the 24 year old hunting a fourth first-round stoppage.

Running Order: Joshua and Selby primed for crunch night

Anthony Joshua MBE and Lee Selby are ready for their crucial clashes at The O2 in London tomorrow night (October 11) live on Sky Sports.

Joshua meets Denis Bakhtov in his first title fight as a professional and if he can land the vacant WBC International title, the 24 year old will cap a fine first year in the paid ranks at the venue he made his debut in on October 5 2013.

Bakhtov is just shy of 50 pro fights and 247 rounds of action in his 15 year career, the Russian is expected to provide a stern test of Joshua’s ambitions and the Olympic gold medal hero knows he will have to be at his best to make it nine KO wins in a row.

Joshua ready to cap first year as a pro in style

Anthony Joshua MBE says winning the WBC International Heavyweight title will be the perfect way to celebrate one year in the pro game at The O2 tomorrow night, live on Sky Sports.

Joshua faces the experienced Russian Denis Bakhtov for the vacant crown and does so at the venue of his debut back on October 5 2013, where he dismantled Emanuele Leo inside a round.

Seven fighters have stood opposite Joshua since that night and only one has made him hear the bell for the third round, Konstantin Airich in his last outing in Manchester last month, the German-based Kazakh providing game resistance until just past the halfway mark of the third.

Matchroom Kick-Off with a Double-Header

Matchroom Boxing promotes its first show of the new season on Saturday at the Manchester Arena and features local fighters Anthony Crolla and Scott Quigg in co-headline fights against overseas opponents.  Crolla defends his WBO inter-continental belt against veteran Mexican Gamaliel Diaz at lightweight, whilst Quigg defends his WBA super-bantamweight title against blown-up bantamweight Stephane Jamoye from Belgium.  Both fights are, of course, over the full 12-round distance.  The show will be televised live in the UK on Sky Television.

Joshua: Klitschko sparring has me firing for Manchester debut

Anthony Joshua MBE says sparring with Heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko has him fired up for his clash with Konstantin Airich at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.

The London 2012 Olympic star spent ten days with the IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO and The Ring title holder and 1996 Olympic champion in Austria ahead of Klitschko’s now-rearranged title defence against Kubrat Pulev.

Joshua has yet to go beyond two rounds in the paid ranks but German-based Kazakh Airich brings a wealth of experience to Lancashire this weekend with 17 KO wins and 153 rounds in the bank – so Joshua expects his time with Klitschko to be invaluable.
