What We Learned From This Past Week in Boxing (Sept. 30 – Oct. 7)

In looking at the boxing landscape this past week, I was pretty excited. While sure, it’s tempting to start focusing on the Timothy Bradley – Juan Manuel Marquez fight coming up on October 12. It’s a fight that I’m really looking forward to (and we will go into a full fight preview on this week’s episode of the Pound 4 Pound Boxing Report Podcast/Show later on this week). However, even as I look forward to that bout, there were some interesting bouts that happened this week.

Fight Report from the O2 Arena: Scott Quigg vs Yoandris Salinas

Tony Conquest gets up off the canvas twice to beat Wadi Camacho in a classic

Tony Conquest dragged himself together and boxed superbly to beat Prizefighter champion Wadi Camacho.

The first round, Camacho came out looking for the big right hand and it was not long before Conquest hit the canvas, but he showed a lot of heart to beat the count to continue the round.
Conquest was also put down in the second round after another big right from Camacho, and it looked to be all over but the Welshman refused to be beaten and made the count again, going on to dominate the fight by countering and working on his jab through the rounds. Camacho’s defence was shocking; he was easy to hit and did not seem like he was in the fight at all after round four, Conquest being the busier fighter and exposing his opponent’s lack of defence.
