Boxing News & Notes for 7/3: Top Rank sues Haymon, Frampton-Gonzalez on ITV, Mares-Santa Cruz is finalized

PBC branches out another series on seventh network. Al Haymon continues his annexation of each and every television network willing to take his call to air the Premier Boxing Champions series. He’s officially purchased airtime on a seventh network, Bounce TV, a specialty network catering to a predominantly African-American viewership. On the first show of their “PBC – The Next Round” series, three-time US Olympic representative Rau’shee Warren takes a massive step up in class against unbeaten Juan Carlos Payano, the WBA Bantamweight champion.

Guerrero-Martinez, Cuellar, Arreola, tabbed for June 6 PBC on NBC

Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-3-1, 18 KOs) returns to the ring as he squares off against Aron Martinez (19-3-1, 4 KOs) on Saturday afternoon, June 6 as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC comes to StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.   The broadcast begins at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT.

Also featured on the card are perennial stars Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (36-4, 31 KOs) and Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo (22-5, 18 KOs) who will compete in separate bouts. Rounding out action is a sure to be action packed featherweight showdown as Jesus Cuellar (26-1, 20 KOs) battles Vic Darchinyan (40-7-1, 29 KOs).

Stiverne stops Arreola in sixth to garner vacant heavyweight crown

A quite sparse crowd would be on hand (3,992 paid attendance) at USC’s Galen Center this evening where a visiting Bermane “B. Ware” Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KO’s) would in the sixth round stop Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (35-4, 31 KO’s) to become the first ever fighter of Haitian descent to capture a world’s heavyweight title.

The time, 2 minutes and 2 seconds of round 6 as Bermane with the same counter right hand that dropped Arreola in their previous meeting connected big time to eventually snuff out the Mexican’s latest of title aspirations.

With Arreola able to find his legs and beat the count after the first of 3 knockdowns in round 6, Stiverne smelling blood in the water would swarm “The Nightmare” to drop him a second time, putting his counterpart in a seriously bad way.
