Thurman Remains Undefeated, But Matthysse & Molina Steal The Night

If you are a boxing fan, you are probably sad right now if you missed the fights at the StubHub Center in Carson, CA. Saturday night, or at home on SHOWTIME. There were some surprises, not necessarily in the fighters who won, but how those wins occurred. The main event ended early due to an injury, and the co-main event probably has Fight of the Year written on it.

The previously-mentioned main event was between Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0, 21 KOs) and Julio Diaz (40-10-1, 29 KOs). The fight was for a scheduled 12 rounds in the welterweight division, and was for the interim WBA World welterweight title.

Thurman had a very strong first round, showing off his speed and accuracy from the get-go. In the second, a punch to the side of the head of Diaz made him take a knee, albeit a delayed reaction. Score the knockdown for Thurman.

Matthysse & Molina Go To War; Thurman Stops Diaz

“Due to a big injury suggested by his corner, stopped at the end of 3 rounds,” said Jimmy Lennon Jr. concluding the main event of tonight’s Showtime headliner at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA as Keith “One Time” Thurman (23-0) retains his WBA Interim Welterweight title.

Julio “The Kidd” Diaz (40-10-1) deemed a “stiff competitor” by K. Thurman, only exhibited the competition in the final minute of the 3rd round before the stoppage of the bout by his corner. In which he exchanged punches with hard hitting One Time Thurman as both fighters electrified the match bringing the fans to their feet in cheers and excitement as the only toe to toe moment of the bout.
