Looking forward to the Copper Box 3

Promoter Frank Warren goes again on Saturday, 15 February 2014, at the former Olympic venue, The Copper Box, his first show of 2014.  Whilst the show mostly features some of Warren’s up and coming young fighters, the crux of the show is the appearance of Britain’s two world class heavyweights, Dereck Chisora and Tyson Fury, who are fundamentally warming up for their much-mooted return fight in the summer, also to be promoted by Warren.

The main event on this show features Chisora, 19-4 (13), who attempts to continue his good run of form against American journeyman Kevin Johnson, 29-4-1 (14).  With the above-mentioned proposed summer match-up in mind, Saturday’s fight should give us a decent form guide, as Johnson also came to the U.K. in December 2012 to tackle Fury.  It was a match which had a stultifying effect on all who were unlucky enough to witness it, as Fury decided he would take the opportunity of getting in 12 rounds of boxing, and Johnson, as is his wont, did nothing but defend in an effort to go the distance unhurt.  Fury won every round in one of the dullest contests seen in a British ring for many years.

Chisora vs Johnson preview

In an effort to improve his ranking with the world title organisations, Dereck Chisora will face Kevin Johnson at the Copper Box arena in Stratford on February 15th in a show that will also feature Tyson Fury. Both displays is looking likely to set up a mega British rematch later on in the year.

Christian Hammer creeping up the rankings

On Friday, 20 December, in Hamburg, Germany, home fighter Christian Hammer continued his slow but steady rise up the world heavyweight rankings by outpointing highly experienced American heavyweight Kevin Johnson after 10 close and strangely absorbing rounds.

Johnson, 29-4-1 (14), spent the lead-up to the fight deriding his opponent, in particular calling him a C-list heavyweight.
