The Smith Brothers

Liverpool boxing is absolutely booming at the moment! Flying the flag higher than anybody else would have to be the Smith’s After this weekend breaking boxing records by having three of the Brothers carrying a British title and one of them the English belt.

Firstly the youngest of the brothers, Callum who has been described as the “The best of the lot”, Callum got things off to a bang for the Smith’s on Saturday in Liverpool becoming the new English champion by stopping Patrick Mendy in the first round. Mendy was known for his durability and granite chin but got smashed by the 7-0 newcomer, in the process Callum wrote his own little bit of history by becoming the first British boxer ever to win 6 consecutive bouts in the first round.

Ringnews24.com: What age did you start boxing?

I started boxing when I was 14 my three brothers all went to the boxing gym (Kirkdale ABC) so I just followed suit. I didn’t want to box I was more into football but two of my mates boxed for the rival amateur club in our area and I thought if I go to the gym and train I can fight you, but without realising at the time one was 70 kilos and the other lad was 90 kilos. I was only 48 kilos so it wouldn’t have ended well if it happened, I had my first amateur fight after 3months at the gym. Other boys that were in the gym also turned pro the likes of Tony Bellew  and Joe Selkirk aswell as me and my three brothers.
