Boxcino 2014 Lightweight champion Petr Petrov to face Gamaliel Diaz

On Friday night, April 3, Boxcino 2014 Lightweight champion Petr Petrov will take on former world champion Gamaliel Diaz in a 10-round fight that will headline an ESPN Friday Night Fight’s card at the Omega Products Outdoor Arena in Corona, California.

The show is promoted by Thompson Boxing and Banner Promotions and the telecast will begin at 9 PM ET. on ESPN 2.

Boxcino champions return to the ring

The second show of the new Friday Night Fights season on ESPN this week features the return of last year’s Boxcino tournament winners, Willie Monroe Jr at middleweight and Russian Petr Petrov at lightweight.  On last week’s show we were treated to a top class performance by Colombian Darleys Perez, who firmly established himself amongst the top lightweights in the world with his victory over Jonathan Maicelo.  This week sees an opportunity for the winners of the two main fights on the card to also stake their claim to be considered world class.  This Friday’s show is promoted by Artie Pelullo’s Banner Promotions and takes place at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in New York state.

Both of the two successful tournament winners from last year have major tests in front of them, in fact it is not inconceivable that both could be defeated.  This really is a fine start to ESPN’s series and let us hope that this standard is retained throughout the season.

Hank Lundy makes quick return on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights

Here he is again, on the road facing an opponent with a huge record on short notice in front of a worldwide television audience with perhaps his entire career on the line.

What might unnerve most fighters translates to another day in the office for CES Boxing’s “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy.

Ranked No. 4 among lightweights in the World Boxing Council (WBC), Lundy (25-4-1, 12 KOs) will step back into the ring Friday night at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in the 10-round co-feature of ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights against hard-hitting Russian Petr Petrov (35-4-2, 17 KOs).
