Boxing helps Oliveira Jr. mend fences with father

Father-son relationships in boxing are often as unpredictable as the sport itself.

Some work, some don’t. Renowned trainer Enzo Calzaghe guided his son, Joe Calzaghe, to five world championships, including a stretch as the longest-reigning super middleweight champion of all time, in addition to a perfect 46-0 record before the younger Calzaghe retired in 2009.

The dynamic between Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. has always made for eclectic TV drama, but the sport undeniably drove a wedge between the two in the early 2000s with Mayweather Jr. choosing his uncle, Roger Mayweather, as his head trainer instead of his father and Mayweather Sr. at one point agreeing to train Oscar De La Hoya to fight his own son.
