Cotto Cruises Over Martinez

There are a few constants in New York at this time of year, remembrances of fallen heroes and surviving vets from D-Day, the Puerto Rican Day parade and Miguel Cotto fighting at Madison Square Garden. If you have never had the pleasure of being there to see Cotto at what he calls his home arena, in front of 21,ooo rabid fans put it on your boxing bucket list. It is INSANE!
Cotto was looking to become the first Puerto Rican fighter to win four titles in four divisions topping legends such as Hall of Famers Wilfred Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez and Felix “Tito” Trinidad. After his destruction of Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez last night he can stake his claim as the greatest of them all.
Martinez who was the lineal Middleweight Champion was defending his championship for the seventh and final time, coming off a second surgery on his right knee and fighting for the first time in 14 months took, to his credit, a very difficult fight against a very tough opponent. Many thought Cotto would have a very hard time moving up to 160 (Catch weight 159) pounds against Martinez and picked against him. Full disclosure I picked Cotto but thought it was strictly a heart pick and not a wise one. Turned out to be a great prediction.
