Eddie Hearn hits back at claims Kell Brook has agreed to weight stipulations to face Amir Khan

Promoter Eddie Hearn has refuted claims from Amir ‘King’ Khan 33-4 (20) that Kell ‘Special K’ Brook 37-2 (26) has agreed to a 10-pound rehydration clause for the pair’s rumoured match-up next year.

Despite both men having fought as high as middleweight – Khan against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Brook against Gennady ‘Triple G’ Golovkin, with both losing by stoppage – weight has long been a sticking point for welterweight Khan and junior middleweight Brook.

Last week Khan stated that Brook had agreed to the weight stipulation, but this was refuted by the Brook camp.

“He’s making things up, saying I agreed on the 10-pound thing. Why would I agree on that?” Brook asked rhetorically on Behind the Gloves.

Hearn weighed in on the issue this week in an interview with iFL TV.

“That’s not been discussed,” said Hearn of the weight issue. “Obviously [Brook] did it with the IBF – would he do it again? Probably not.”

The 32-year-old Brook is expected to take a warm-up fight in December before planning his next career move.

“Kell will probably box December 8 [in Sheffield],” Hearn said.

But the Matchroom Boxing boss is still confident the fight between Khan and Brook can be made in the first quarter of 2019.

“We’ll announce that early next week and then hopefully make the Khan fight early next year,” he said.

Khan is two fights back into his ring return with a 39 second knockout of veteran Phil Lo Greco and a unanimous points victory over Samuel Vargas. The Bolton banger had American Vargas on the deck twice in the bout but found himself on the canvas in the second round of the contest.

Brook, who hasn’t fought since his second round knockout of fringe contender Siarhei Rabchanka in March, was ringside for both fights.

The mooted Khan-Brook fight would likely take place in a stadium in the British spring.
