George Thomson looking to improve his knowledge of boxing as his career progresses

Ringnews24.com: You have a fight coming up against Jamie Quinn. How did that fight come about and which other boxers were you looking at?

It was matched up by the promoters. Truthfully, I never look that far into the the future or at other boxers and I just take things one fight at a time and as they come.

Ringnews24.com: Who is your current trainer and where do you train?

My current trainers are Jamie Coyle and Stevie Graham, I’ve also been given great advice by my friend Daniel Jefferson who is a strength and conditioning coach for Stirling University. Training normally takes place between three places : Our newly established 1314 gym in Stirling, Larkhall and Stirling University.

Ringnews24.com: You are currently 4-0. What are your thoughts on how your career is progressing so far?

So far it’s been good, it’s had a few ups and downs but I’m currently testing out how much weight divisions I can move down safely and still feel strong.

Ringnews24.com: What has been the best piece of boxing advice you have received in your career?

The most useful advice I ever received can be said in this one quote: ”Get jogging, you’re too wee for a heavyweight!”.

Ringnews24.com: You are currently in the middle of a training camp to prepare for Quinn could you tell us a little about your camp?

I didn’t train as well as I’d have liked for my previous fight, despite winning there was a lot that didn’t feel or go right. Now I’ve put a bit more emphasis on Strength and Condition and better jogging. The fight before seen me doing the same monotonous bag circuits and 5 mile jogs day in and day out, now I’ve added sprint circuits, dedicated strength and conditioning programs and long jogs that leave me feeling flattened.

Ringnews24.com: Have you seen much footage of Quinn and what do you think of him as a fighter?

Unfortunately I haven’t. I don’t try and look into who I’m fighting all that much.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a prediction of how the fight will end?

I can’t say how it will end but I can certainly say it will be action packed from start to finish.

Ringnews24.com: Who is going to be in your corner on the night? And what do they bring to Team Thomson?

My cornermen will be Jamie Coyle and Stevie Graham. They both have there own methods and neither of them are the same, which is good for me as I’ll be getting two different viewpoints. Stevie Graham also used to be Jamie’s corner man and has a more in depth knowledge of the pro scene.

Ringnews24.com: After your victory, are there any fighters that you would like to call out?

As I said earlier, I only look at things one fight at a time, my actual knowledge of boxing isn’t all that great so after this fight I’ll have some studying to do.

Ringnews24.com: Do you have a message for the fans?

I could be here with you all day with this part. But to keep it short I’d just love to thank everyone who’s taken the time out of there day to come and see me and the rest of the great boxers on display. It’s an old cliche but without you guys I wouldn’t be doing it and you keep the sport thriving.

Ringnews24.com: Thanks for talking to Ringnews24, we wish you all the best on the night.
