How Much Of A Chance Does Dillian Whyte Have Against Tyson Fury?

Although nothing is set in stone at this point, it is now looking likely that WBC number one challenger, Dillian Whyte will be facing Tyson Fury next. The news comes in the wake of Anthony Joshua now basically setting his sights on the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. Both fights are expected to take place later on this year.

Whyte has had it tough during the past few years since being made mandatory challenger. He was deprived of a shot against Deontay Wilder when he was the WBC belt holder. But the Londoner kept busy by fighting as many top contenders as he possibly could including the likes of Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and Oscar Rivas. Now his dream is about to be realised.

But does Dillian Whyte have a good chance of upsetting the apple cart?

Since his defeat to Anthony Joshua in 2015, Whyte has managed to regroup and made improvements to his arsenal including a good counter left hook and working behind the jab more. But his defence and stamina is still questionable. And sharing the ring with somebody like Tyson Fury, who has a high ring IQ, that would likely be something that the champion would capitalise on.

Fury’s punch resistance isn’t exactly solid after being put down by cruiserweights like Steve Cunningham. But he has bundles of determination and heart to keep rising to the occasion and coming away with a victory each and every time. Yes, he drew with Deontay Wilder in their original encounter. However, let’s face it.  Most people agree that he should have come away with the win and the belt at that point in time.

It is hard to begrudge Dillian Whyte his opportunity to attempt to see himself as a heavyweight champion. But I find it unlikely that he will topple Fury. He just does not have enough to get that job done.

I foresee Tyson Fury either stopping Dillian Whyte late or winning a comfortable and wide points decision.
