Fighting on the main event of a card titled “Three to See”, Curtis “Showtime” Stevens (24-3, 17KOs) scored another high reel knock out when he stopped Saul Roman (37-9, 31KOs) at 2:26 of the first round. Stevens is enjoying a 4-win streak (3 via KO) since losing his last fight in 2010 against Jesse Brinkley. “Showtime” has his sights set on Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin and has called him out in several occasions via social media and in several interviews. Rumors of a possible fight between Stevens and Golovkin taking place in the fall have been circulating but nothing has been officially confirmed.
Polish fans showed up in large numbers to support Heavyweight Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29KOs) as he went on to win his 49th fight scoring an unanimous decision against the very durable Dominick Guinn (34-9-1, 23KOs). Adamek controlled most of the fight using his jab and speed while Guinn was content fighting in spurts. Guinn, who suffered a cut on his right eye due to an accidental head butt, was looking for one big punch but Adamek was able to handle his power and counter punch all night on his way to the decision win. Judges scored the bout 98-92, 99-91 (2x) for the Polish fighter.
Fighting for the first time in the Cruiserweight Division, “Fast” Eddie Chambers (36-3, 18KOs) lost via unanimous decision to Thabiso Mchunu (12-1, 9KOs) with judges’s scores of 93-97, 91-99, 91-99. “Fast” Eddie definitely had the edge in speed but was simply not busy enough, sometimes spending too much time “posing” and not throwing punches. Mchunu took advantage of the opportunity at hand and counter-punched Chambers with his right hand as evidenced by the swelling on Chambers’ left eye. The unexpected loss throws a wrench on Chambers’ plans of becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Cruiserweight division.
