Paul Archer looking to shoot down the Huni monster at the Meadow

Easington’s undefeated welterweight pugilist, Paul Archer (7-0) will step into the Rainton Meadows Arena in two weeks time and oppose that of unknown Disney Huni (1-2). The Smethwick-based Zimbabwean, having won on his debut, comes in on the back of two straight losses, the last a TKO2 against Daza Usher in mid-September.

The County Durham boxer though, whom is now under the tutelage of his elder brother Ian, has been rebuilding and classes this outing as a new beginning, a second chance at his debut.

“It’s all been really busy for me the past few months,” began Paul.

“Everything is on the go and running very smoothly but that is what I would expect. It’s been great working with my brother Ian and I’m on par for making weights now. I’ve had plenty of sparring with both Paul Truscott and Lee Mould ahead of their respective title bouts and it’s with someone like Truscott that you learn a lot as he’s at a top level anyway.

“You really do pick up a lot when you are sharing the ring with someone like him, he’s a class act. It’s all helped me to feel more confident in myself and my abilities. Sparring with those that are better than me or have more experience helps me to progress more as well.”

Brother Ian is more than enthused with Paul’s progress under his tutelage. Having taken over from the experienced Dave Binns earlier this year Ian has been aiding with the rebuild of the Easington pugilist.

“I couldn’t be happier with how training has gone over the past 2 months,” Ian stated.

“He’s even had more sparring than normal and with some top lads in Paul Truscott and Lee Mould. We aren’t necessarily training for a particular fight, we’re training to make Paul a better boxer/fighter in general, both physically and mentally and I think we’re achieving that as we’ve looked at everything from the smallest detail to the obvious things.

“For both me and Paul this is a new situation and we’re treating this next fight as his debut. He’s got something to prove and he’s much focused on what he wants to achieve in the next few months. We’re trying to make up for lost time so Paul is working harder than ever.” Paul though is chomping at the bit and pretty much raring to go ahead of his ring return on the 19th. Fighting on the undercard of what is now an English title bout between Kirk Goodings and Archer’s sparring partner, Paul

Truscott as well as a Commonwealth title clash between Martin Ward and Gabriel Odoi Laryea, the Easington pugilist is looking to progress in every way.

“I’m feeling really good now and am well on my way to being, if not already, in the best shape I have been in,” Paul continued.

“I didn’t want to take a step back (Archer will oppose Huni mover four threes) but I suppose it happens and will do as much work as I can in these four rounds as I would if it were over six. I’m hoping people will get a shock when they see the new me on October 19th because I’m going into this and classing it as a clean state, a fresh start, feeling like I am making my debut all over again so I’m looking to prove to people and show them what I am all about”

Archer will be appearing on the next Pro-box North-East show at the Rainton Meadows Arena on October 19th against Disney Huni (1-2). The show has some of the regions big names on it including a Wear – Tees derby as Kirk Goodings and PaulTruscott oppose for the vacant English Lightweight title, Martin Ward challenges for the Commonwealth Bantamweight strap along with that of Anthony Nelson, Robert Ismay, and Edinburgh’s John McCallum and many more.
