Ringside Report: Joel Diaz Jr remains unbeaten in Mashantucket, Connecticut

Foxwoods Resort Casino – Mashantucket, Connecticut:  Super featherweight prospect Joel Diaz Jr. (15-0, 12 KOs) remained undefeated with a unanimous decision victory over Tyler Asselstine (14-1, 7KOs) in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation on the SHOWTIME network.  Diaz, who has recently signed with Jean Pascal Promotions, failed to deliver an exciting performance in a fight most observers thought he could easily dominate.

Diaz who is 22 years old, is a promising prospect and is currently trained by world renowned trainer Abel Sanchez.  But in this last outing he fought in spurts throughout the 10 round bout and did enough just to win the fight, landing lead right hands all night and tagging Asselstine to the body.  All judges scored the fight 97-92 in favor of Diaz.

The co-main event match between Jr middleweight Frank Galarza (13-0-2, 9KOs) and Sebastian Bouchard (8-0, 2 KOs) was a much better fight and pitted the classic Puncher vs Boxer.  Both men traded leather from the first second of round one, although it was Galarza who did the most damage, landing the harder shots which rocked Bouchard.  Bouchard, was having success landing his right hands at will, but Galarza made adjustments and came back to score with body punches of his own.

Although the fight appeared to be close, it was the unbeaten Galarza who was getting the best of Bouchard moving well around the ring and landing the more accurate punches.  Galarza pulled away in the latter rounds and won a comfortably decision with scores of 77-74, 77-74,78-73
