Big Fight Preview: Gennady Golovkin vs Daniel Geale

Look for former world champion Daniel “Real Deal” Geale (30-2) to give GGG (29-0) all kinds of issues during the early rounds this Saturday or until Gennady figures him out—whichever occurs first. When that happens, the Kazakhstan bomber will begin to find the right separation as is his wont and begin to use his stiff and powerful jabs to set up his even more powerful combos torqued by his hand speed.

With the IBO and WBA Super World middleweight titles at stake in Madison Square Garden (where Gennady slaughtered Curtiss Stevens in November 2013), the stage is set for GGG to open up his entire box of tools and when he does, the end will come for Geale as the Australian is rescued from himself by either his corner of referee Mike Ortega. This should occur as GGG closes off the ring and moves Geale into a corner, strategically pummeling him with accurate and fully leveraged shots alternating downstairs and upstairs–perhaps as early as Round seven.

Make no mistake, Geale is still in his prime, has plenty of heart and can box technically well (and can go to the body with deceptive power). In this connection, he is the best opponent Golovkin has faced thus far. Conversely, GGG is the best opponent Geale has ever faced. And he too is in his prime notwithstanding a monster number of amateur fights. As an important aside, GGG has never been knocked down or knocked out in over 375 fights both as an amateur and as a professional.

For a common opponent, Ghanaian Osumanu Adama was butchered by GGG IN February. However, Osumanu went the distance with Geale in a UD loss March 2012 (one judge even had it 115-113).

Again, we will be treated to a methodical and planful beating and the fact I don’t have to write a whole lot about it says it all.
