Plymouth duo Courtney Richards and Chris Adaway recorded hometown victories at the Plymouth Guildhall on Sunday afternoon.

Cruiserweight Richards and lightweight Adaway both registered shut-out points wins over Igoris Borucha and Joe Beeden respectively.

Adaway showed real promise on his debut to boss proceedings against the experienced Beeden and register a 40-36 victory.

Richards, who topped the bill, showed flashes of quality against his durable Latvian opponent and was the deserved victor after six rounds of boxing (60-54).

“It was a real buzz to fight in my hometown,” Richards told www.uko-boxing. “The atmosphere was brilliant and I was pleased to get the win. Borucha is a very tough guy. I was hitting him with big shots and he soaking them up. It was a good test for me and I want to thank everyone for making it such a special day.”

“I loved every minute of it,” added Adaway. “I can’t wait to do it again! I felt comfortable in there and got to Beeden a few times. It was the perfect debut for me.”

Elsewhere on the card, Exeter welterweight, Freddy Kiwitt, scored a second successive 40-36 victory over Brighton’s Kevin McAuley whilst Stoke’s Joshua McLaren stopped Hull’s Paul O’Brien on a cut in the second round.

Professional boxing is set to return to Plymouth in December. More details to follow.
