Lennox Clarke and Des Bowater were crowned British Bronze Masters Champions in Walsall on Saturday evening.
The Black Country duo extended their unbeaten records to 7-0 at a packed Stadium Suite, Walsall FC, on Black Country Boxing’s ‘Triple Threat’ Show.
Halesowen super middleweight, Clarke, boxed expertly behind the jab to take every round against the durable Dan Blackwell.
The 23 year-old, looking in fantastic shape, impressed as he bloodied Blackwell’s face early on. He didn’t miss with the jab all night and could be forgiven for not hunting his opponent’s body due to the success he had upstairs. Credit to his Trowbridge foe too, who kept coming forward and always looked dangerous on the inside. Referee Gareth Morris scored the contest 80-72 to ensure ‘Dangerous’ lifted his first professional title.
Clarke’s punch power has been evident since his debut and, judging by this performance, his boxing skills are improving with every fight as he looks to make 2015 a breakthrough year.
Stablemate Bowater also claimed his first title; although his contest with Lewis ‘2 Slick’ Jones was much closer.
The pair went toe-to-toe for a British Bronze Masters Super Featherweight Title and their similar styles cancelled each other out for much of the contest. Jones brought speed whilst Bowater brought power and, in the end, power proved the difference. Just.
The Wolverhampton man’s heavier shots saw him awarded a 78-75 point win by Morris to extend D-Bow’s unbeaten run and secure a maiden belt in an entertaining contest. Bowater showed real heart to dig in and take the win against a very game opponent who had come to cause an upset.
Completing the show was an all Staffordshire affair between Stoke’s Kieran McLaren and Tamworth’s Matt Seawright. As always, Seawright made life difficult for his opponent, who stretched his unbeaten record to 4-0 with a hard fought 60-55 win. Morris again officiated.
It was an entertaining three-card show at the salubrious Stadium Suite as the undefeated trio’s winning runs continued. Black Country Boxing’s next show takes place in Cannock on Saturday, 28th February.
Stafford’s undefeated fighter, Grant Cunningham, tops the bill as he steps down to middleweight to take on Damon Jones in an English Middleweight Title Eliminator.
Walsall’s Luke Paddock is also in action as he makes a maiden defence of his Midlands Area Light Welterweight Title when he takes on Newark’s Fergus Taylor.
