Chavez Jr, Imam, and Arroyo victorious in El Paso, Texas

In a WBC world title eliminator undefeated 140-pound contender from Albany NY, Amir “Young Master” Imam (18-0, 15 KOs) knocked out Fernando “La Fiera” Angulo (29-10, 16 KO) in the fourth round by landing a big right hand that made Angulo fall face first to the canvas. There was no need for the referee to start the count because Angulo was not going to get up in enough time.

This win for Imam sets up a championship match between the winner of Lucas Matthysse vs Viktor Postol.

Undefeated 115-pounder, McJoe Arroyo (17-0, 8 KOs) won a ten round technical decision over Arthur Villanueva (27-1, 14 KOs) the two boxers fought a very technical fight. Villanueva had a point deducted away from him in the sixth round for charging in with his head. He also had an ugly gash on his right eye by a second clash of the heads that would ultimately lead to the fight being stopped in the tenth round. Scores from the judges were 97-92, 98-91, 98-91 in favor of McJoe Arroyo, who is now the new IBF junior bantamweight champion.

Chavez was clearly the bigger man in the ring as he landed the heavier shots. Although Reyes was the busier fighter, he didn’t have the fire power to keep Chavez Jr. at bay. In the ninth round Reyes had a point deducted away from him for a headbutt in which left Chavez Jr. with a cut on his left eye. Scores from the judges were 97-92, 98-91, 96-93 in favor of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
