This year’s Paul Murphy amateur boxing tournament was held on September 3rd-6th in Doraville, Ga. This was an event where amateur boxers from all over the United States had a chance to showcase their talent. I had the privilege of watching a group of young fighters that were very determined to win championship titles in their perspective weight classes.

Leo Rahman 17, won the Men’s Novice Championship title at 141lbs.

Elijah Williams 12, won the Open Championship title at 135lbs.

Marcus Floyd Jr.15, won the Open Championship Title at 119lbs.

Kaduece Morgan won the Open Champioship Title at 95lbs.

Zyrell Williams 10, won the Novice Championship Title at 85lbs.

Tyrell Simon 14, won the Novice Championship Title at 85lbs.

Jasir Junior 10, won the Open Championship Title at 65lbs.

There were two young boxers that stood out in this tournament and everyone had to take notice. Marquise Williams 18, fought at the weight class of 201lbs. He is known to be very aggressive in the ring and has every intention on knocking out his opponents. Williams walked away with the Men’s Novice Heavyweight Championship Title.

Kasir Goldston 12, is a very slick boxer. He has fast hands, uses great ring generalship, good defense, and his accuracy when it comes to hitting his opponents is unbelievable. Goldston won the Open Championship Title at 110lbs.

The only loss out the group of young men that traveled to the Atlanta area from Upstate New York was Daschiell Izzaray 17, who fought at the weight class of 178lbs in the Men’s Novice Division. Izzaray has nothing to hold his head down about because he was new to the boxing scene and still left the tournament with a trophy and more importantly, experience that he can learn from to use in his upcoming bouts.

These talented young boxers are trained by Tyshaun Goldston, Leonard Lee and Marcus Floyd Sr. They are called Team Hittaz and Hook Elite Boxing Club based out of Albany, Newburg, and Buffalo New York.  It was great to see our youth so focused on positive things like this and they also have men who serve as role models and coaches who are doing very well in guiding these future stars in the right path that leads to success.
