WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan is no closer to confirming an opponent for fight on April 16 homecoming fight, as talks with European champion Paul McCloskey seem to have come to a end.
It is understood that McCloskey’s promoter Barry Hearn turned down an offer from the Khan camp believing the purse was well below the European champion’s market value. Having already missed out on his first choice opponent, American Lamont Peterson, because of purse demands.
‘We were speaking to Lamont Peterson then Paul McCloskey but its funny because every fighter I want to fight now, they overprice themselves’ said Khan.
The Bolton man also confirmed that his April contest would be a tune up for a unification fight with the winner of Devon Alexander vs Timothy Bradley later in the summer.
