Jack Culcay wins WBA Interim World Championship, signs contract extension with Team Sauerland!

Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) took his chance and is the new WBA Interim World Champion at Super Welterweight! Fighting in front of a home crowd against compatriot Maurice Weber (21-2-1, 8 KOs) at the Festhalle Frankfurt (Germany), Culcay dominated most of the rounds. Despite Culcay landing hard punches to Weber’s head and body in the championship rounds, the latter refused to give in, letting the judges make their final verdict. After twelve rounds, “Golden Jack” won by scores of 115:112, 116:111 und 118:110.

Wegner tips ‘Golden Jack’ to become his seventh world champion

Ulli Wegner is one of Europe’s most successful boxing coaches. A legendary figure in his native Germany, the 73 year-old has guided six fighters to world titles, including the undefeated former IBF and WBA (Super) Super Middleweight Champion Sven Ottke and the current WBO Super Middleweight king Arthur Abraham.

Jack Culcay aiming to rule the world starting Saturday

Jack Culcay (19-1, 10 KOs) is no stranger to success. In 2009, the German talent captured gold at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Milan. Six years later, ‘Golden Jack’ will be attempting the same feat in the paid ranks, when he faces Maurice Weber (21-1-1, 8 KOs) for the Interim WBA World Light Middleweight title on Saturday night in Frankfurt, Germany.

New opponent for Culcay’s first European title defence on December 6

Jack Culcay (18-1, 10 KOs) will now face Karim Merroudj (13-3-2, 1 KOs) in the first defence of his European Light Middleweight title on December 6 at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany. Merroudj replaces Ruben Varon who was forced to withdraw having contracted an eye infection.

‘’These things happen in boxing,’’ said Culcay, who claimed the European title with a unanimous points win over Issac Real in August. ‘’This will not derail my preparations for December 6. To reach the top I must beat whoever is put in front of me.’’

Culcay to defend European title against Varon on December 6

Jack Culcay (18-1, 10 KOs) is the latest addition to Team Sauerland’s bumper bill on December 6 in Oldenburg, Germany. The European Light Middleweight Champion will defend his title against Ruben Varon (42-8, 20 KOs), on the same night WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer and IBF World Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez feature in a world championship double header at the EWE Arena.

“I want to make a statement against Varon and show everybody why I’m the European Champion,” said Culcay, who defends the belt for the first time, having come off the canvas to claim the European crown against Issac Real in August.
