Marcus Dawkins looking to capture IBU Title

This Saturday, professional boxer Marcus Dawkins of Colorado Springs, Colorado will be fighting for the vacant IBU title. The 10 round bout will be held in Cotonou, Benin which is home to his opponent Victor Kpadenue.

Dawkins is currently on a two fight winning streak and fresh off a TKO victory over Javier Rodriguez in March. When asked about earning the chance to fight for the IBU title, Dawkins said, “This is an opportunity for me and I am ready and going to take advantage of it.”

Kpadenue, a Benin fan favorite, has faced several accomplished boxers including former world title challengers Gary Lockett and Olusegun Ajose. This will be Kpadenue’s first fight in over four years, when he scored a victory over Isaac Sowah.

Kpadenue’s recent inactivity is noted by Dawkins, “I feel his inactivity could be a factor, this is not a sport that you can train two months out of the year for and expect to win. I plan on taking advantage and exposing his ring rust.”
